Week 4’s theme was Art Adventures

Week 4 was our second to last week of camp, and the theme was Art Adventures! We channeled our creativity all week with Tara Fahey, an established local artist, teacher, & puppet maker.

Tara walked us through the process of creating our own puppet shows! First, we designed our characters and then made them into puppets using cardboard, spoons, and other materials.

In groups, we came up with ideas for our puppet shows and created storyboards to plot them out. Then, we took some time to rehearse. Everyone’s ready to perform for parents this Thursday!

Miss Len did some glitter glue art with the Explorers (grades 1-3). We decorated puzzle pieces and made lots of colorful, textured art!

Miss Len also spent time teaching photo editing to the Investigators (4-8). We used Pixlr Express to edit our photography from Week 3, playing around with colors, digital stickers, and AI effects.

Investigators also did some reading this week. We chose from a variety of books in GMCC’s collection and wrote reflections about what we read. We also crafted paper mache models of Earth!

On Friday, we walked over to Stewart Park for the LakeStreet Youth Labs Olympics! We started the day off with a youth vs adults kickball game, dodgeball, and some free play in the gym.

After eating lunch outside, we went back to the gym to watch a performance of Z Puppets Rosenschnoz’s The Amazing Gnip Gnop Circus! The blacklight show featured glowing acrobats, clowns, and tightrope walkers – all made out of ping pong balls and found materials! Our campers really enjoyed the show and had a lot of questions to ask the entertainers about how everything worked.

After the show, we ended the day with a relay race, football throwing game, basketball, and some yummy popsicles to beat the heat!
