Week 5’s theme was Fun in the Sun!

Week 5 was a bittersweet week because it was our last week of STEAM Summer! We made sure to fill the week with lots of fun activities & memories to end the summer with. We started the week with a visit from the Dodge Nature Center.

They brought live snakes, turtles, and salamanders for the campers to touch!

We made lots of art to commemorate the summer, including painting, perler beads, bracelets, weaving baskets, and clay!

For the “Fun in the Sun” theme, we had a lot of outdoor play time at the park, pool, and on the rooftop. We also made tie dye t-shirts!

Investigators designed their own cars powered by balloons and then raced them!

Plenty of time was spent practicing for our Talent Show & Family Party that took place on Thursday, September 28th! Talents included puppetry, jump roping, gymnastics, solving a Rubix cube, hula hooping, and A LOT of singing & dancing to the KPOP Demon Hunters soundtrack, specifically Your Idol, Takedown, Golden, Soda Pop.

Family members attended to watch the talent show and eat pizza (which we got a discount for thanks to a parent that works at Papa John’s) & refreshments. We also played a slideshow of camp photos. It was a blast and the campers’ hard work practicing really paid off! Some of them even did costumes & face paint for their performances.

For our final field trip, we went to the Maple Grove Community Center – it has become a tradition for the end of camp, since we have done it for the past three years! Campers always love playing in the Maple Maze, a huge indoor playground with tunnels & slides.

After, we went swimming in the Grove Cove Aquatic Center, which has a waterslide, obstacle course, climbing wall, lazy river, and more! At the end of the day, we gave out free backpacks with school supplies & grocery bags to campers and had families sign up to receive a 2025 LakeStreet Youth Labs STEAM Summer Yearbook at the end of the year.

What a fun, sun-filled way to close out our summer and say goodbye to our camp friends!
