About The UMM Project
The UMM (أمّ is Arabic for “Mother”) Recovery Project centers pregnant and parenting mothers in Somali/East African communities who are in recovery or actively dealing with substance use disorder (SUD).
We have a team of Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (PRSs) to provide curated and culturally-specific support for individuals at various stages of treatment and recovery.
PRSs work 1:1 with clients to connect them to resources and lead weekly all-recovery meetings. All services are free of charge, and we don’t bill insurance.
Program offerings include:
- Free monthly workshops about parenting, substance use awareness, and mental health
- Assistance with childcare, housing, food, emergencies, and/or transportation
- Opportunity to get paid to offer your input about mothers in recovery
- Opportunity to become a Peer Recovery Specialist after one year of sobriety!
