GMCC responded to a call from Hearth Connection & Home Stories to collect brief stories about how supportive housing makes a difference for people, families, and communities in the Twin Cities.

For this project, we interviewed GMCC Housing Resource Navigators / Case Managers Paulina Rivera and Lesia Dembley so they could share their stories about working in supportive housing and how the work has impacted their clients. Watch the video below:

Stories collected as part of this campaign may be shared with policymakers, funders, and community leaders to help protect the future of supportive housing in Minnesota.

About this campaign

  • This campaign centers voices from urban and metro communities.
  • Cities face unique housing pressures and system demands.

Why urban stories matter

  • Housing markets are more expensive and competitive
  • They show how supportive housing helps individuals and families achieve stability
  • They make visible what happens when support is lost
  • They help decision-makers understand the real-world impact of funding cuts

What your story can show

  • How supportive housing helps people stay stable in the city
  • What changes first when funding or services are reduced
  • How housing stability affects neighborhoods and systems
